To contest the upcoming national elections a total of 51 contenders including seven from AL and 11 from BNP submitted their nominations papers to the offices of returning office (RO) and assistant returning offices (ARO) in the district's five constituencies on Wednesday on the last date of the submission of nomination papers scheduled by the election commission. Constituency-wise contenders who submitted their nomination papers are:
Jamalpur-1 (Baksiganj-Dewanganj) constituency: Abul Kalam Azad (AL), Nur Mohammad (AL), Abdul Kaiyum (BNP), M Rashiduzzaman Millat (BNP), Shahadat-bin-Zaman (BNP), MA Sattar (JP-Ershad), Suruzzaman (NAP), Sirajul Haque (Gono Forum), Moulana Abdul Mazid (Islami Andalon Bangladesh) and Jahangir Alam (Bangladesh Jatiya Party).
Jamalpur-2 (Islampur Upazila) constituency: Faridul Haque Khan (AL), Sultan Mahmud Babu (BNP), ASM Abdul Halim (BNP), Monwar Hossain (BNP), Mostafa Al Mahmud (JP-Ershad), Manjurul Ahsan Khan (CPB),Mufti Minhaj Uddin (Bangladesh Islami Oikyajot) and Mir Mushfiqur Rahman (Independent).
Jamalpur-3 (Melandah-Madarganj) constituency: State minister for Textile and Jute minister and lawmaker Mirza Azam (AL), Mostafizur Rahman Babul (BNP), Barrister Badrudduza Badol (BNP), Shiblul Bari Raju (CPB), Noyeem Jahangir (Gono Forum), Lt. Col (retired) Manjur Ahad Helal (JP-Ershad), Abdul Hakim Shanti (Jaker Party), Moulana Burhan Uddin (Islami Andolan Bangladesh), Moulana Masum Billah (Bangladesh Shariat Andolan), Shafiqul Islam (BSD), Abdur Rouf Hira (Peoples Party) and Shafiqur Rahman (Independent).
Jamalpur-4 (Sarishabari Upazila): Dr Murad Hasan (AL), Faridul Kabir Talukdar Shamim (BNP), Mukhlesur Rahman Bastu (JP-Ershad), lawmaker Mamunur Rashid Joardar (JP-Ershad), Mostafa Babul (BNF), Rabiul Islam Tarafdar (Gono Forum) and Ali Akbar (Islami Andalon Bangladesh).
Jamalpur-5 (Sadar) constituency: Engineer Mozaffor Hossain (AL), lawmaker Rezaul Karim Hira (AL), advocate Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun (BNP), Sirajul Haque (BNP), Sheikh Mohammad Akkas Ali (CPB), Syed Yunus Ahmed (Ismali Andolan Bangladesh), advocate Babor Ali (JP-Manju), AL leader engineer Mohammad Ali (Independent), Kazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam (JP-Ershad), Al Amin Jorhman (Bangladesh Muslim League), Shibli Akanda (Jaker Party), Amir Uddin (JSD-Rab), Md Belal Uddin (Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan) and Mohammad Abdul Karim Sarkar (BNF). Officials of RO and AROs offices in the district confirmed the names of contenders who submitted nomination papers.
