The retired teachers of Chittagong steel Mills High School are yet to get the retirement benefits after retirement of 10 years. The 14 retired teachers of the school are passing their days in hardship now. The retired teachers Chittagong steel Mills High School held a .press conference at Chittagong Press Club and said, "although the directives of the Prime Minister, the Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) is yet to pay the retirement benefits of the teachers."
Former head master Mohammed Nurul Anwar Khan read out the written statement at the press conference and urged the Prime Minister sheikh Hasina for her kind intervention to pay the retirement benefits of the teachers. He said, "After taking the management and ownership of the High School from the Chittagong Steel Mills, the BEPZA is yet to pay the retirement benefits to the teachers."
He said after closing the Chittagong Steel Mills, the mill area became the Karnaphuli EPZ area and the BEPZA took the charge of Chittagong steel Mills High School. But, the BEPZA did not pay the retirement benefits. He further informed the press that the office of the Prime Minister had directed the BEPZA to pay the dues of retired teachers. But, BEPZA and management of the school committee are violating the directives. Therefore he urged the authorities to pay the dues immediately.
"Otherwise, we will stage demonstration and observe hunger strike till death," he threatens. He also urged the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her kind intervention to pay the retirement benefits of the teachers. Among others, retired teachers Asia Begum, Anju Dutta, Khodeja Begum, Jerian Akter Banu, Joysree Dutta, Dulal Barua addressed the press conference.
