Boro seedlings transplantation begins in Rangpur region


Farmers have already started transplantation of Boro seedlings to make the fixed farming program successful in Rangpur agricultural zone during the current Rabi season. According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, the farmers have already prepared seedbeds on 27,091 hectares of land against the fixed target of preparing the same on 23,635 hectares in the region, reports BSS.

"The farmers have already transplanted Boro seedling on over 2,200 hectares of land as the process will get full momentum by this month end in the region," said horticulture specialist of the DAE Khandaker Md. Mesbahul Islam.
The DAE, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation, Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute, Barind Multipurpose Development Authorities and other organizations have taken adequate steps to make the Boro cultivation program successful.

"The farmers are not facing any hurdle now amid favorable climatic conditions and the authorities concerned have taken steps to ensure a smooth supply of diesel, power and fertilizers as part of the comprehensive steps taken by the government," Islam added. According to the DAE sources, the department has fixed a target of producing over 20.69 lakh tons of clean Boro rice from 5.02 lakh hectares of land in all five districts under Rangpur agriculture zone during this winter season.

According to official sources, the fixed target of Boro rice production for Rangpur region stands at 10.80 percent of the fixed national target of producing over 1.91 crore tons from 48 lakh hectares of land in the country this season.
