A month long village fair titled as Jasim Polli Mela coinciding with the 114th birth anniversary of Polli Kabi Jasimuddin will begin tomorrow on January 13 at the tiny village of Gobindapur adjacent to the ancestral home and grave of the late poet. Sources concerned said the Polli Mela is being jointly organized by Faridpur district administration and Jasim Foundation. There will be roughly 200 stalls of handicrafts and various recreational facilities including amusements at the fair venue located on the outskirts of the town overlooking the dried up branch of the river Kumar. LGRD & Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain will inaugurate the fair, the sources said. About two hundred temporary stalls will be set up in the fair premises along with decorated permanent stage (Jasim Mancha) for cultural performances.

The stalls will consist mostly with handicrafts and rural oriented cottage goods both for display and sale. Arrangements have also been made for other recreational options. To make the fortnight long fair secured and pleasant all necessary measures including security, electricity, water supply, fire services, sanitation and improvement of connecting roads have been done. A colorful souvenir will be brought out to mark the occasion.

Renovation of the graveyard located by the side of the fair site where the poet is having his eternal sleep under the shadow of a pomegranate tree with a sign board engraving 'Here is the grave of your grandma under the pomegranate tree, I have soaked for last thirty years with the tears of my two eyes'. The sign board carries famous stanza from his immortal poem 'Kabor'.
