A Dhaka court yesterday permitted police to interrogate model, actor Kalyan Corraya accused of hitting Bangla daily Prothom Alo chief photo journalist Zia Islam with his car. "Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Majharul Haque passed the order as police pleaded to place the accused on three-day remand," a court official said. The court also rejected a bail plea submitted by Kalyan's counsel Moham-mad Faruk. Earlier in the day Kalabagan police Sub-inspector Omar Faruq Khan filed petition for three-day custody for interrogating Kalyan after presenting him before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrates' Court at about 1:00pm.
On Tuesday afternoon, Prothom Alo's Security Manager Major (rtd) Sajjadul Kabir filed a case with the Kalabagan police against actor Kalyan. Earlier on 9 January, Zia Islam sustained critical injury on his head and legs when speedy private car hit his motorcycle from behind at about 11:30pm in front of Bashundhara City shopping mall. Some journalists, who were present on the accident spot, took Zia to Dhaka Medical College Hospital's Emergency Unit immediately. Later, he was taken to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. Later a medical board of DMCH physicians suggested to send Zia to private hospital Apollo or to shift him abroad for better treatment at about 10:45am on Monday.
Later, according to the physician's advice, Zia was shifted to Apollo Hospital.
