'Action against illegal rickshaws soon' CCC mayor AJM Nasir Uddin presided over a meeting with divisional head at City Corporation seminar hall yesterday. -AA

The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayor AJM Nasir Uddin yesterday said there is no option to run the unregistered rickshaws and motor run rickshaws here in the port city. We will take action against the unregistered rickshaws and motor run rickshaws soon. Nasir made the remark on Friday while presiding over a meeting at city corporation seminar hall yesterday evening.

Addressing the meeting, the mayor said, "We will take necessary action to make the roads and footpaths free from such illegally-run vehicles. So, we will evict the illegal occupiers of footpaths as well as make the city traffic congestion-free one." For ensuring traffic congestion-free port city, we will take action against the unregistered rickshaws and motor-run rickshaws soon. There is no option to run the unregistered ones here in the port city, said CCC mayor.

Nasir Uddin further said that the city corporation has undertaken several projects. The development projects include; development of infrastructure, drainage and environment; digging of 26 cannels, Rajakhali Khal excavation, airport road development and garbage processing project, procurement of 20 AC buses for city area, bus and truck terminal construction, development of Patenga and Thandacharia area as tourist spot, set up the plant of power from garbage, construction of new cyclone centers, preservation of ponds and dighis and open grounds in city, construction of flats for people living at hillside with risk, introducing of commuter train services, construction of inner ring roads and waterway transports, transforming of the tube light factory of CCC to LED bulb factory etc. 

The mayor urged to the officials to work hard to implement the projects and make Chittagong clean and green one. Among others, acting chief executive officer of CCC Mohammed Abul Hossain, chief revenue officer Dr Muhammed Mostafijur Rahman, chief education officer Najia Sharmin, secretary of CCC Lt Colonel Mohiuddin Ahamed, chief accounts officer Mohammed Saifuddin, Chief Cleaning officer Shaikh Shafiqul Manan Siddiki, Superintendent Engineer Mohammed Rafiqul Islam Manik, Engineers Mohammed Mahafujul Haque, Monirul Husa, Dr Ashis Mukharjee, Ashek Rasul Tipu and Abdur Rahim  addressed the meetings.
