Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has opened an inquiry over lawyers in Chittagong vandalizing a magistrate's chamber after one of their colleagues was denied bail in a human trafficking case. A three-member panel headed by the Supreme Court's Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam has been formed.
The two others are High Court Division's Additional Registrar Sabbir Foyez and Chittagong's Senior Judi-cial Magistrate Hussan Md Reza. "The committee started to work from Thur-sday," Foyez told the media. He said they have been told to file their findings as soon as possible.
The pandemonium began on Wednesday, when Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shahadat Hoss-ain Bhuiyan rejected the bail petition of Advocate Jamal Hossain and his wife Yasmin Akhter. They were arrested by RAB late on
Tuesday from the Shah Amanat Airport area on suspicion of their involvement in a human trafficking case. The couple was present at the bail hearing. Lawyers representing the duo began to agitate inside the courtroom following the bail rejection and were soon joined in by other lawyers, eyewitnesses said.
Several lawyers emerging out of the courtroom then broke the glass panes on the doors and windows of the judge's chamber, they said. Some of them allegedly snatched the camera of media professionals taking pictures of the mayhem.
Later leaders of the Chittagong Bar Association met the chief judicial magistrate and a different court granted bail to the couple in the evening.
