Someone came from Mymensingh, some from Rangpur, Chittagong, Jamalpur, Kurigram, from every corner of the country responding to the call of an organization named 'Pater Larai (Fight for Jute)' by dint of Facebook, the most popular social medium.
Among the attendees, there were jute officers of different government and private organizations, development workers, teachers, students, journalists. All gathered to exchange their views, express their firm will to bring the lost tradition of 'golden fiber' to the dignity of 'diamond fiber' as friends of jute (Patbondhu).
The organization 'Pater Larai' arranged the opinion exchange meeting titled 'Patbondhu Adda (Discussion of jute friends)' at Biswa Sahitya Kendra in the capital on Friday. The auditorium filled to the brim with registered members from different parts of the country before the scheduled time.
The main part of the meeting started with handing over souvenirs to Patbondhus. In the second part of the function, Patbondhus discussed about the jute industry and the problems and potentials of entrepreneurs of jute products in Bangladesh.
A total of 50 Patbondhu of different organizations including Wasim Jabbar, Director General of Bangladesh Petroleum Institute, Team leader of Switch Asia Jute Value Chain Development of Care Bangladesh Shekhar Bhattacharya, Prof Abu Noman Faruque Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Mohammad Moinul Islam, higher scientific officer of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, Proprietor of Craftvision Ibrahim Khalil and high officials of 30 institutions were present in the function.
In his congratulatory speech, Patbondhu Nasimul Ahsan, the founder of the organization 'Pater Larai' said this organization wants to be a platform of farmers, entrepreneurs and people related to jute.
"We want to work together. We want to make farmers interested to cultivate jute and produce jute seeds. We want to build a product design and ICT cell for jute products entrepreneurs where all works including logo to product photography, branding and marketing of each organization will be done."
He said the social media can play significant role to make jute products popular. 'Pater Larai' has already started that work.
We are going ahead to develop the first online marketplace for jute products 'UJute' which will be an excellent bridge between purchasers and sellers of jute goods. It will play key role to enhance demand of jute products in domestic market and make popular, Nasimul added.
About the importance of making jute products among children and adolescents, he said today's children are the future of Bangladesh. If we make them friendly to environment, aware of jute products, it will be a great work for the jute industry of Bangladesh.
"We have taken an initiative named 'Jute for Kids' for motivating children in the environment-friendly spirit so that they know about jute products from childhood."
