Besides literary conference, Theatre Art Unit staged 'Amina Sundori', a play based on 300-year-old folktale of Bheluya Sundari. -Bengal Foundation
A three-day literary conference enthralled the audiences at the Abul Mal Abdul Muhit Krira Complex, Sylhet. The literary conference was held as part of the 10-day cultural festival organized by Bengal Foundation. A monthly literary magazine, Kali O Kolom organized the conference where litterateurs from Bangladesh, India and Nepal participated.
On the opening day, Friday, Bangladeshi, Indian and Nepalese litterateurs discussed on different aspects of Bangla literature in four sessions. Popular litterateurs like Hasan Azizul Haque, Professor Serajul Islam Choudhury, Professor Akhter Kamal and Indian essayist Amiya Dev graced the inaugural session of the conference.
Poet Asad Chowdhury, Hasan Azizul Haque and visiting authors from India Anita Agnihotri and Suresh Ranjan Basak discussed on contemporary Bangla literature. The next session was held on literature and social realities in of Bangladesh. Professor Akhtar Kalam was the key speaker at the session. Professor Biswajit Ghosh and novelist Ahmad Mostafa Kamal also spoke at the event.
Poet- journalist Sazzad Sharif, literary researcher from India Soumen Bharotia, among others, discussed on the relationship between literature and heritage. Poet Ruby Rahman, author Wasi Rahman and Kolkata-based author Asok Mukhopadhyay, among others, attended the next session which discussed on portrayal of life of women in literature.
On the other hand, Saturday saw five sessions where local writers-researchers-poets including director general of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan, Asad Chowdhury, popular science-fiction writer Zafar Iqbal, Kaisar Haque and others participated.
Among the visiting foreign litterateurs Indian writers Amiya Dev, Shaoli Mitra, Ashis Sanyal, Anshuman Bhaumik and Nepalese literary critique Mahesh Padwal took part at different sessions on Saturday.
Besides literary conference and discussion, cultural programs were also part of the festival. Theatre Art Unit staged their much acclaimed play 'Amina Sundori', Iffat Ara Dewan rendered songs that moved the audiences.
