12-day remand for militant couple


A Chittagong court on Saturday granted 12-day remand for arrested militant couple.  The arrested militant couple Jashim Udiin and his wife Arjin was submitted before the court of Judicial Magistrate Mohammed Reja by Sitakunda thana police. Investigation Officer (IO) of the cases and Inspector of the Sitakunda thana police Mahabub Milky appealed before the court for 15 days remand.

But, the court granted 12 days remand for the arrested militant couple.  Sources said, the court granted 5 days remand in connection with arms case and seven days remand in connection with anti-terrorism case for the arrested militant couple.

Officer in Charge of Sitakunda thana Ifthekhar Uddin said, they had appealed before the court for 15 days remand of arrested Jashim Udiin and his wife Arjin in connection with two cases. The court granted 12 days remand for the arrested militant couple.

He said, "After ending the 12 days remand, we will submit them before the court again and appeal for fresh remand in connection with rest two cases."

Sources said, a total of four cases were filed in connection with the arms recovery and attack of militants on police at Sitakunda in Chittagong. Police filed the cases against arrested two militants and others who are unidentified. Police filed four cases in connection with militants den, recovery of arms and explosives at Sitakunda. 

It may be mentioned that a team recovered huge arms and materials of manufacturing of bombs from the militants den which Police unearthed March 15 and 16. They recovered bombs, grenades and firearms from the houses.

Sources said, a team of Sitakunda police raided a house owned by Suresh Biswas in Madhyam Mahadebpur village in the upazila at around 3 pm on March 15. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the militants staying at the house hurled three grenades at them, prompting them to swing into action around 3 pm on that day.

Later, the police team entered the house and took into custody a couple named Jashim and his wife Arjina with their two-month-old baby. The operation at the house owned by Suresh Biswas started at around 3 pm and ended at around 7.15 pm on March 15. The operation was conducted by the Chittagong district Police, CMP and Special Weapon and Tactic (SWAT).

Sources said, the militants rented the house of house of one Shubash named Shadhon Kutir at Lamar Bazar area at Amirabad under Sitakunta thana in Chittagong introducing themselves a family on March 2.
