The Forest Department seized huge timbers worth around Tk 15 lakh loaded in a covered van from Foujdarhat Station area under Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong on Sunday morning.
Sources said the timber traders were smuggling the timbers from nearby forest by a covered van (Number Dhaka Metro- Ta- 11- 7879). Acting on a tip off, the officials of the Forest Department seized 500 cft timbers loaded in a covered van from there. The value of recovered timber would be around Tk 15 lakh, said the range officer of Forest Department Mohammad Ariful Islam.
However, the timbers were handed over to the North Range of Forest Department. A case was filed in this connection.
Sources said, earlier on March 8, the Forest Department seized 600 cft timbers loaded in a truck from Korer Hat area under Mirerswari upazila in Chittagong. Besides, Forest Department seized 200 cft timbers loaded in a truck from Korer Hat area under Mirerswari upazila in Chittagong on March 7.
It may be mentioned that earlier on February 28 last, Forest Department seized 500 cft timbers loaded in a truck from Bhujpur under Fatikchari upazila in Chittagong.
Sources said the timber smugglers were smuggling the timbers from the nearby forest illegally by a truck. Acting on secret information, the officials of the Forest Department seized 500 cft timbers loaded in a truck from there. The seized timbers were handed over to the North range of Forest Department.
