Former Foreign Secretary and Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil Mohamed Mijarul Quayes was buried at Banani Graveyard followed the second namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers yesterday.
The first namaz-e-janaza was held at the Foreign Ministry at morning. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Finance MA Mannan, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and current and former diplomats attended his Janaza.
His body was taken to the central Shaheed Minar at 10 am and kept till 12 pm where people from all strata paid their last respects to him. Dhaka University Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, former secretary Mizanur Rahman, former secretary Abu Alam Shahid Khan, among others, placed wreaths on his coffin.
The body of late Mijarul Quayes was brought here from Brazil here shortly after Monday midnight. Deputy Chief of Mission at the Bangladesh Embassy in Brasilia Shumona Iqbal and family members of Quayes accompanied the body.
Quayes breathed his last at a hospital in Brasilia, Brazil at 6 am (BST) on March 11 at the age of 57. He served as a Foreign Secretary at the ministry during 2009-12.
