The chief of Army staff of India Gen Bipin Rawat will arrive in Dhaka on March 30 on a two-day visit with a view to discussing bilateral defense cooperation with top officials of Bangladesh. He would be visiting Dhaka ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's India visit next month when the two friendly neighboring countries are expected to sign a comprehensive defense cooperation deal. Gen Rawat will fly in from Kathmandu at the invitation of his Bangladeshi counterpart Gen Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq.
Though diplomatic sources in Dhaka said this would be a return visit by the Indian army chief after the India visit of Gen Belal in September 2015, officials said the visit holds a special significance in the light of improving bilateral military cooperation.
