Four-tier security at Dhaka airport

A four-tier security arrangement has been taken in and around the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on the occasion of the 136th Assembly of IPU, reports BSS.

The first ever 136th Assembly of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) will be held from April 1-5 in the capital city. In this regard, the HSIA authority has also imposed restriction on relatives and accompanies of outbound air passengers to enter into the airport.

Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal Ehsanul Gani Chowdhury told BSS that they have beefed up the security arrangement of the airport compared to previous time on the occasion of the IPU assembly.

"The security arrangements have been taken for safe and smooth movement of the IPU participants along with other guests," he added. Chowdhury, however, said the security restrictions would be continued until return back of the IPU participants.

Talking to BSS Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tarek Ahmed Siddique said that some 1,200 forces would be deployed for ensuring security and 14 more officers from ASP to SP level are being engaged in the supervision of the force.

Manager (Public Relation) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Shakir Meraj said that the Biman has undertaken plans for providing better service to very important persons, who would visit Bangladesh for IPU assembly.

A help desk has been set up at the airport along with increasing number of counters and ensure baggage delivery within 17 minutes, he said.
