Rain causes sufferings in Ctg

The Bay of Bengal was very rough yesterday due to monsoon rain which started Wednesday night last.  The continuous monsoon rain disrupted the normal life of the people of greater Chittagong yesterday like Friday and Thursday. Most of the areas of Chittagong, including the low-lying areas of the port city and coastal areas of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, offshore island Kutubdia, Moheshkhali, Teknaf were inundated yesterday due to the continuous torrential rains.

 The raining has continued from Wednesday night till filing of the report at noon yesterday. According to Meteorolo-gical Department Chitta-gong has experienced heavy rainfall from Wednesday night till Saturday.

 As a result, the drains and canals of the city and all the rivers of the district were full to the brim of rainwater causing inundation of the low-lying areas by overflow. Besides, the Dalu, Sangu, Halda and Karnaphuli rivers were full to the brim of floodwater caused by the torrential rainfall. 

The local meteorological department also opined that the rainfall is likely to continue up to April 24 next. The heavy shower affected the normal life of the city. The streets looked vacant, as the movement of vehicles and the pedestrians was negligible due to heavy shower.

The low-lying areas of the port city including Bakalia, Chandgaon, Bahadderhat, Chawk Bazar, Badurtala, Nasirabad, Halishahar, Patenga, Kattali, and Chaktai have gone under knee-deep water following the torrential rains for several hours. So, the inhabitants of those low-lying areas remained stranded for inundation.

Chittagong is gone into knee-deep water due to the heavy downpour Friday and Saturday. The people of Chittagong are telling, "Now, Chittagong is a swimming pool". The sufferings of the people of Chittagong knew no bound.

 Many people criticized the mayor of Chittagong City Corporation and its ward councilors for violating their election manifesto to solve the crisis of water logging.
