Life term imprisonment for two in C'nawabganj

A court on Monday in Chapainawabganj sentenced two persons to life term imprisonment in two separate cases.  The convicted persons are Abdul Malek, 45, son of Shamsul of Dhainagar village under Shibganj upazila and Rasel, 25, son of Fazlur Rahman of Amnura Bazarpara in Sadar upazila.

Additional District and Session Judge Ziaur Rahman, who is also Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention court-2, pronounced the verdicts. The prosecution story, in brief, is that, Abdul Malek raped Shuktara Khatun, 18, daughter of Kastu of Bamungaon village under Shibganj upazila while she was returning home from the river on November 6, 2011.

After the incident Shuktara's mother Rehena Begum filed a rape case with Shibganj Thana. SI Jahangir Alam submitted charge-sheet to the court against Malek on January 1, 2012.  After examining the witnesses and evidences the court sentenced him to life term imprisonment and fined Taka one lakh.
