National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken necessary preparation for conscious enforcement of new VAT law so that the businesses are not affected in any way. "Transition to the new VAT law would be smooth and seamless as field level NBR officials have been given training and necessary instructions so that no businesses are affected," said NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman at a "Revenue Dialogue" with large taxpayers.
The NBR chief came up with this assurance when Salman F Rahman, private sector development affairs adviser to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, said businesses people are concerned about the transition period in enforcement of new VAT law.
"Field level officials of NBR need to show positive attitude during this transition period so that businesses are not affected," Rahman said while speaking at the dialogue as the chief guest.
Rahman said there is no doubt that the new VAT law will be effective from July 1 and businesspeople welcome this law as it is more time-befitting as it will protect local industries, small businesses will be not affected, there is provision of getting back return in case of payment of any surplus tax.
NBR chairman said united efforts by all stakeholders including businesses and NBR are needed for the successful enforcement of the new VAT law.
Representatives from Unilever, British American Tobacco, Anwar Cement, BEXIMCO, Green Delta and Square were present at the dialogue.
