She is equally for both Bengals, the stunning actress has won hearts from audiences and critics with her charming personality and extraordinary acting both in Bangladesh and India. Recently her another joint venture film Bishorjon got National Award and her acting charisma received praise from actors, directors, critics and viewers.
Joya Ahsan, who became a familiar face and name in Kolkata and Bangladesh gave an exclusive insight about her journey and the differences between Tollywood film and Dhallywood film to Times of India.
She said, "In Tollywood, there is a lot of fear among directors. But the industry provides such great infrastructure and organization. In Bangladesh, there is not much infrastructure, but a lot of passion.
At times, even the entire production budget has not been organized, but the director is like, let's start shooting. I too get swayed by the passion, and you'll probably find me in some remote part of the country, where there isn't even proper drinking water, shooting for the film."
About the differences in the role she played both in Bangladesh and Kolkata, she said, "They trust me there with interesting female roles. In Bengal, directors love to play safe. Women in Tollywood films are mostly very feminine; that's the way they're designed. In Bangladesh, I've just done a film on life in a circus. From walking a tightrope to doing stunts, I've not taken a body double. Where are roles like that for women here?"
This year the lustrous actress is stepping forward with a new identity, as a producer. About producing her first film, Joya said, "My biggest challenge this year is that I have also pitched myself as a producer. I've got a government subsidy to make a film based on Humayun Ahmed's story, Debi.
I've got the government funds, but I have to gather the rest of the money and finish the film within time. The shooting is going on. This is a story from the Misir Ali series. Chanchal Choudhury, who had a role in Moner Manush, play Misir Ali."
