For months, the World War Z sequel has been in limbo, being removed from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions calendar of upcoming productions. Finally, some good news for the zombie flick. According to Variety, things are moving forward as acclaimed director David Fincher has agreed to work on the project with Brad Pitt back to star.
The studio's new chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos has reportedly not officially greenlit the project, but sources tell the publication the film will likely be announced in the coming weeks.
Tentatively titled World War Z 2, the blockbuster will mark Fincher and Pitt's fourth film together, following the critically acclaimed Seven, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Since 1992's Alien 3, Fincher has remained adamantly away from sequels, but thanks to Pitt - who is also producing - has been brought on board. Fincher hasn't directed a film since Gone Girl. The filmmaker has been turning his attention to television as of late. He recently shot the Netflix pilot Mind Hunters.
