Tulsi is a bushy fragrant plant with spread out branches. In English, it is called Holy Basil. It grows to a height of 7 to 8 feet. The Tulsi is planted in and around one's home. One finds four types of Tulsi in Bangladesh; Bantulsi; Babui tulsi; Rama tulsi; White and Black tulsi.
Tulsi flowers blossom all around the year. However, they blossom most profusely during the rains and at the end of winter. The Tulsi plant grows from seeds and thrives in the shade. In the Hindu community, Tulsi is used in the ritual of their prayers. It has some medicinal qualities. Its leaves and the juice exerted from them help cure cold and cough, breathing troubles, various complaints of the liver, asthma and small-pox. They also help in destroying ringworms and various intestinal parasites and are useful in curing itching.
