Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, the chairman of the national taskforce for safeguarding rivers, inaugurated the park. Pointing that, Mihir Biswas said public have the right to know how he could do that.
He demanded to reclaim the land demolishing the park. Apart from this, evicting the illegal structures from the river bank, checking Sitalakkhya pollution and stopping raw waste dump into the river also were sought.
Columnist Abul Maksud at the press conference said: "Four rivers around Dhaka are being seriously facing encroachment. It's disgraceful that people with political power are behind this."
"If the rivers die, the people dependent on those will be urban refugees," warning that, Maksud said: "The uncoordinated approach of the governmental organizations is to blame."
