Marginal farmers happy getting easy-term loans

Twenty marginal and landless male and female farmers and sharecroppers expressed happiness on Thursday after getting easy-term agriculture loans ranging from Taka 15,000 to 20,000 per head without security.  The loan recipient farmers are members of Uttar Dowlapara Farmers' Group (UDFG) under Hafizabad Union Federation Farmers' Forum (HUFFF) of RDRS Bangladesh in Sadar upazila of the district, a press release said.

Panchagarh branch of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) disbursed Taka 3.20 lakh agri-loans without security among 20 farmers belonging to UDFG to their bank accounts opened with Taka 10 at an open loan distribution ceremony there. RDRS Bangladesh has been assisting the farmers for improving their livelihoods under Improving Food Security Governance in South and Southeast Asia through Strengthened Partici-pation of Organi-sations of Marginalised Farmers Regional Project.

 The loan recipient farmers will pay back the received amounts within one year period at only 4.50 per cent inertest rates after cultivating pumpkin and 'Korola' crops.  Manager of Panchagarh branch of RAKUB Solaiman Ali attended the function held at Uttar Dowlapara village and disbursed agri-loans as the chief guest with chairman of Hafizabad Union Parishad Musa Karim-ullah in the chair.  Lauding the initiative, the chief guest suggested the loan recipient farmers and sharecroppers for ensuring best use of the money in increasing production of vegetables and other crops to improve their livelihoods and economic condition.
