Parents of three-month-old Shin burst into tears after her rescue. -AA
A three-month-old baby, who was abducted from Riverview area of Keraniganj in Dhaka on May 17, was rescued by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday after two days of the abduction. RAB also arrested a youth named Sumon, 32, son of Julhas Hossain of Thengamara village in Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur district for involvement in the incident. Jahangir Hossain Matubbar, Commander of RAB-10, said RAB forces raided Golam Baza'ar area on Thursday and arrested Sumon in connection with the incident.
According to Sumon's confessional statement, RAB conducted another drive at a house in the same area yesterday and rescued the baby Kinara Rahman Shin. Jahangir at a press briefing at his office yesterday said, the abducted child's father Sakhawat Hossain is an employee of a medicine company and mother is a housewife.
On the day of occurrence, electronic goods trader Sumon went to the house of Sakhawat and kidnapped the baby in sleeping condition. At that time, Shin's mother went to another room to bring some dresses. The abductor demanded Tk 2 lakh as ransom from the family of the victim over cell phone. Finding no way, Shin's father informed the matter to police and RAB. Later, RAB arrested the kidnapper arranging a trap in the name of ransom paying.
