Finance Minister AMA Muhith today said the government is likely to increase allocation for the disabled in the upcoming budget (2017-18) to ensure their normal living and equal rights in the society.
"Every year, we allocate budget in various sectors for providing assistance to the physically challenged people. The allocation for disabled will also be increased in the upcoming budget," he said.
Muhith was addressing a meeting with a delegation of the Jatiyo Protibondhi Forum led by former Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs minister Abdul Matin Khasru at the Finance Ministry conference room in the city.
The minister said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly for increasing the living standard of physically challenged people.
The forum placed a set of proposals to the finance minister in the meeting.
The 29-point proposals include proper implementation of Disabled Rights and Protection Act-2013, increasing allocation to protection trust of physically challenged people, establishing child development centre in all district Sadar hospitals, taking programs for their self-employment and increasing budgetary allocations for their financial support, establishing research center in every division, reserving 10 percent quota for professional women in every professional hostel and removal of obstacles to easy access of the disabled to railway stations, bus terminals, hospitals, etc.
According to the proposals, Muhith said the government is likely to allocate for establishing research center in divisions across the country in the upcoming budget.
