How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world - William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice
Central Women's University Drama Club (CWUDC) celebrated the 450 years of the greatest dramatist William Shakespeare's birth in the university's auditorium on May 22, 2017. Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, translated by the veteran translator and the Chairperson of English and Modern Languages, CWU, Abdus Selim and directed by Dr. Irein Parven Lopa was performed by the students of the university. In exuberance of Shakespearean dramatic flow, all the guests along with the Vice Chancellor Dr. Parween Hasan were fully captivated by the performance of the students; as the drama rolled on, a room full of crowd appreciated the production with amid enthusiasm; there were occasional applaud, laughter and cheers from all the guests. As the drama ended with emblematic Shakespearean resolution, the audience gave a standing ovation towards the participants.
"All my life I have always been a big believer of my students' ability to do impossible things; these girls have done a great job, they showed us their passion for stage and performance", said Abdus Selim, the moderator of the drama club. Dr. Irein Parveen Lopa expressed her solemnities towards her dedication for preparing students for their performance;
"I had a great time with these girls, it was not easy to expostulate the obvious that, we had problems with resources and time slots, and I also had to come from Baridhara, the success goes to us all, its a collective effort". There were crowd, passion and deliberate effort on posing the light shredded on everyone's mind; the light of the candle, the small step from the students of Central Women's University will cast a bigger beam in the university's journey.
