Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Smrity Shongshad, Naraynaganj celebrated rebel poet's 118th birth anniversary on Friday. On this occasion a cultural function and discussion meeting held at Government Tolaram College Teachers conference room.
Poet Rafiq Hasan also an assistant editor of the Asian Age was the main speaker at the function, presided over by Prof Dr Shirin Begum. Poet Lily Haque, Vice-Principal of Naraynganj College Ruman Reza, Humayun Kabir, Moin Ahsan also took part in discussion.
The speakers recalled the life of rebel poet and called upon the people to be enlighted with the spirit of Nazrul's ideals.In his speech, Rabbi Mian assured the organizers of providing all out support of the local government in spreading Nazrul's sprit among the people.
Poet Rafiq Hasan presented a paper on Nazrul and recalled that Kazi Nazrul Islam had dedicated his life for the cause of common people. "Nazrul fought against imperialism and never bow down even after torture and humiliation to him by the colonial rulers." He (Nazrul) never accepted the rule of the British in greater India. As a result, he was very critic of oppressive rulers.
