Ishita Ashraf, a Bangladeshi-Canadian student of the University of British Columbia (UBC), along with her team members won the Canada National Award in the recently held First Enactus Canada National Exposition.
Competing with many other teams of Canadian universities and colleges, they won the award for their projects that included Inventathon, a semi-annual 24-hour case competition allowing students the ability to learn new skills and take their ideas further, using entrepreneurial action to create a better, more sustainable world, reports UNB. Project Roots-was another challenging innovative ambitious project designed to address the concern of food security.
Roots is a social enterprise- a revolution that will allow students on Campus to access fresh and nutritious produce at prices 40-60 percent below retail prices while supporting local farmers and aboriginals.
The team won the Hellman's Best Project Solution Award for their food security project proposal and received the Enactus National Competition Opening Round Runner-Up Award and the National Rookie Champion Award as the best new team in Canada.
