Adieu, the month of Ramadan. Welcome, Eid ul Fitr. Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) thought of a holy and sacred entertainment among the Muslims, the Prophet (PBUH) felt the matter seriously and the festival of Eid was started because of his good thoughts, this is a pure entertainment and everyone can enjoy it. The Prophet (PBUH) mentions, "Li Kulli Qaomin Eid, Haza Iduna.", it means, "Each nation has its own and respective festival, this Eid is our own occasion of festivity."
Our beloved People's Republic of Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony." Though Bangladesh is the third largest Muslim country in the world in terms of population, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians live very closely and side by side in this country for many years. These religious groups live here like brothers though they perform their respective religious rituals.
We indulge ourselves in joy and pleasure, at the same time, we also try to share pleasure. Eid calls upon all of us to stand and stay alongside, Eid teaches us to forget division, Eid makes us for get class division and at the same time, Eid erases the barrier between the rich and the poor. Eid teaches us to remain united. Eid teaches us the message of fraternity. Eid makes us forget jealousy and envy. We can not think of any sort of quarrel and fight on the day of Eid.
It is Makruh (not encouraged) to perform Nafal Swalat at home or at the Eid ground prior to the Wajib Swalat of Eid ul Fitr. It is Makruh also for women and men who are unable to perform swalat of Eid to perform Nafl Swalat prior to the Swalat of Eid. The Prophet (PBUH) says about the high significance and infinite blessing of the Swalat of Eid ul Fitr that, "Allah give reward those people highly who prays to Allah after the Swalats of two Eids for the satisfaction of Allah."
On the days of Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha, the Prophet (PBUH) used to proceed towards the Eid ground and performed swalat first. Then, after the completion of swalat, he turned his face towards the musallis (people who came to mosque to perform swalat) standing and the musallis sat in alignment to perform swalat. He used to offer sermon, he ordered to perform good deeds and exchanged Eid greetings.
The picture of true equality gets revealed when two rakaats of Wajib swalat of Eid ul Azha is performed in a united manner in alignment in a massive Eid ground. It becomes obvious and evident through this event that, Islam is always against any sort of social inequality and Islam takes firm steps to establish equality in society. It becomes certain that, the joy of Eid is shared and enjoyed by everyone when all embrace each other at the end of swalat of Eid ul Fitr. A divine scene of beauty is revealed when every one embraces each other, world Muslim fraternity becomes solidified. In the same manner, jealousy and envy disappear from the minds of all.
Eid ul Fitr brings the message of a new life free of stigma and full of love for Muslims when life seems to be filled up with sorrow, pain crisis and misfortune. The Eid ul Fitr is a system in which people forget their class division, social inequality and financial disparity, people forget who is black and who is white, people get united, they indulge in sheer pleasure. This Eid not only provides us with joy but also gives us guidance about the mundane life and divine reward. The joy of Eid is universal. This joy is full of riches and divine blessing. Everybody indulges in the greeting of Eid, that is, "Eid Mubarak, As Salam."
But at the same time it should be remembered that, this greeting does not become cliché, the appeal of this greeting should always remain fresh. We should try to forget the division existing among us. There should always be vibrant fraternity among us. It can easily be expected on the day of that we forgive each other, simultaneously, we should also remain prepared to accept each other as brothers forgetting various sorts of division.
In fact, Eid brings the message of joy in one way or another for all sorts of people, poor and rich, happy and unhappy, young and old. Eid makes us united through religious means and using the bond of love, Eid also teaches us to make the highest sacrifice for each other. It is true that Eid is not able take away all our sorrow, pain and misfortune, but, simultaneously, Eid is able to bring a little touch of joy, cooperation, sympathy, compassion and fraternity. We beseech to Allah SWT for happiness, peace and prosperity for entire human race.
The world should become free from all sorts of greed, indecent desire, enmity, jealousy, fight and quarrel. The fear of terror should disappear. May peace, fraternity, amity and friendship prevail in our planet. May the future days be beautiful and nice. The joy of Eid should touch the lives of all and this festivity should become a universal one. May fraternity extend to personal, familial, social and state lives also.
This should be our fervent prayer on the day of Eid. So, brothers, at the end of fasting in this holy month of Ramadan, come forward to spread the happiness of Eid ul Fitr among all of us. Let us get truly united. I convey my good wishes to all on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr, "Eid Mubarak, As Salam." (Moulana Abdullah Al-Mamun is an Assistant Director of Islamic Foundation, Bangladesh)
