Dantranga is a tender plant of small size with spread-out branches. Its green leaves look somewhat like Cassia leaves and, so, they are sometimes called Cassia, leaves, too. The leaves and the juice coming out of them have a reddish color, hence the plant is also called Dant Ranga (Tooth Redenner). Its violet colored flowers have five petals with a yellow one at the centre. The flowers blossom in the rainy season.
The plant grows from seeds and cuttings. Generally, the Dant Ranga plant grows in high land. Its flowers are seen in the high lands of Joydevpur, Gazipur, Chittagong and Chittagong Hill Tracts. They have certain medicinal qualities. Its leaves are very beneficial in cases of dysentery and other stomach troubles. Dant Ranga leaves are used, besides Bangladesh, in Thailand, India, China and Indonesia.
