Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya has said the government is going to construct shelter centres in each union of seventeen flood-prone districts.
The minister made the statement after attending an inter-ministerial meeting over the flood situation at the seminar room of Deputy Commissioner in Gaibandha, one of the districts worst affected by the floods.
"The government has provided 6,100 metric tons rice, cash Tk 1, 55 crore and 39,000 packets of dry food. Apart from rice and cash, some 380,000 families of the affected areas in Sylhet got relief materials through Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme which is continuing," Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said.
He assured the deputy commissioners in the meeting that adequate relief material including rice and cash money will be provided in due time. This relief activity will continue until the situation gets normal.
He requested all medical teams to visit the flood hit areas regularly to ensure the medical support. He also requested public health department to take the precautionary measures to prevent water-borne diseases
Deputy speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, secretary of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Mohammad Shah Kamal and DC of Gaibandha Goutam Chandra Pal were present in the discussion meeting.
