JnU students demand missing classmate back

Jagannath University (JnU) staged demonstration boycotting classes and examination yesterday demanding safe return of one of their classmates, who remains missing for last 55 days. Physics Department students closed the main entrance of JnU in the morning and alleged that there was no visible initiative to get him back even after several complaints filed to the university authority and police.

The students gave a 72-hour ultimatum on July 13, demanding information about their classmate. Sadekul Islam Milon, a JnU student of Physics Department, was whisked up on May 23 by plainclothes from Mohammadpur area in Dhaka. His family filed a GD with Adabor police station after police denied any apprehension of the student.

In the meantime, JnU proctor Noor Mohammad informed the students that Milon was at DB custody. However, the Detective Brach of police also claimed that they did not hold the student. The yesterday's demonstration began in front of the department and the agitated student staged a sit-in demo at the main entrance of the campus. Assistant proctor of the university Mostafa Kamal said they were trying to normalize the situation.
