Mirza Fakhrul Islam
General Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir warned on Monday that Awami League would find no way to escape in days to come. He made this remark on Monday at a seminar on BNP's Vision 2030 organized by Mohila Dol presided over by Afroza Abbas.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Awami League has been committing misdeeds like murders, abduction and corruption. He said there is only one way out for Awami League and that is to pave the way for an all-inclusive, free and fair election by negotiating with all political parties, Mirza Fakhrul Islam added. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir complained that Election Commission (EC) wants to keep the opposition parties away from next polls through its recently announced roadmap.
The present government does not want BNP to participate in next election because fair election would lead to the ruling party's defeat, Mirza Fakhrul Islam further said. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also said a versial person has been appointed to run EC.
He expressed doubts about the efficacy of EC's roadmap as, according to him, this roadmap does not facilitate all parties' participation in next polls. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called upon all leaders and activists of his party to get organized to compel the government to arrange a free and fair election for smooth continuation of democracy in the country. He also urged the government to hold dialogues with all political parties to ensure an unbiased election.
