Abul Kalam alias Lengra Kamal alias dacoit Kamalya, the alleged notorious gang leader of pirates gang Kalam Bahini was killed in a gun fight with elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Polo ground area in the port city Tuesday night.
The RAB team also claimed recovering a sophisticated firearms AK-47 from the spot after the half-hour long gun fight, sources in RAB said. Sources said, Abul Kalam, the notorious gang leader of pirates gang Kalam Bahini along with his associates had come to Chittagong.
Acting on a tip off, the team of RAB-7 raided the Polo ground area in the port city to nab him. But, sensing the presence of RAB team, he opened fire to the team. In retaliation, the RAB team also fired to him.
At one stage, Abul Kalam was killed in gun fight and his one accomplice was injured while rests could manage to escape from the spot. The RAB arrested the injured pirates and admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for treatment. The body of the victim Abul Kalam was sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Comanding Officer of RAB-7 Lieutenant Colonel Miftah uddin Ahmad alleged that Abul Kalam was a notorious gang leader of pirates gang Kalam Bahini. He was killed in a gun fight on Tuesday night.
He further said, Abul Kalam was a listed gang leader of pirates gang Kalam Bahini. He was a notorious terrorist who formed the gang at Feni and committed piracy on the river way. The boatmen and fishermen were always afraid of him when they were going to fishing to sea or rivers.
Sources said, incidents of piracy and attacking on seamen at the cargo and fishing trawlers and engine boats on the sea way are increasing day by day.
Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has intensified raids against pirates on the waterways in the country and Bay of Bengal now. At the same time, RAB has also continued the raids on the land to nab the pirates when they are used to stay on land.
