A roundtable titled 'Regional Cancer Center: A profitable investment in controlling cancer' was held yesterday at the VIP Lounge of the Jatiya Press Club. The head of Cancer Epidemiology of National Institute of Cancer Research Dr Md Habibullah Talukder presented the concept paper and moderated the roundtable.
Cancer specialists, survivors, journalists and social workers took part at the discussion. Prof Dr Shubhagata Chowdhury, Prof Dr Golam Mostafa, Prof Dr Sabera Khatun, Prof Dr Saria Tasnim, Rotary District-3281 Governor-elect Abul Fazal Mohammad Alamgir, senior journalist Masud Kamal, Nadira Kiron and Shahnaz Poly, DPM of Directorate of Health Services Dr Md Rafiqul Haidar, Treasurer of Dhaka Officers' Club Barrister Motasim Billah Faruqi, cancer survivor Tahmina Gaffar and Rokeya Rumi, Trustee of Anti-Tobacco Alliance Rafiqul Islam Milon spoke at the function.
Terming the regional cancer center proposed by Dr Habibullah Talukder 'a landmark step', the speakers demanded the implementation of it to the government.
Rotary District-3281 Governor-elect Abul Fazal Mohammad Alamgir assured Rotary Club will take initiative to set up at least one center along with the government's move. Center for Cancer Prevention and Research (CCPR) organized the roundtable with assistance of Rotary Club of Dhaka Golden City.
