Police have accused over a thousand unidentified protesters from seven colleges of attempting murder during their recent clash with law enforcers in Dhaka's Shahbagh.
The case filed with Shahbagh Police Station also accuses the 1,200 suspects for obstructing police work, said Shahbagh Police OC Abul Hasan on Friday.
The 13 protesters, detained during Thursday's scuffle, will be handed over to the authorities of their respective colleges, he said.
Students of seven colleges affiliated with the Dhaka University had started a protest to get authorities to announce their examination schedule, which was one of their seven demands.
Police moved in when the demonstrators began blocking traffic at Shahbagh intersection. A clash erupted but police personnel used batons and teargas shells to disperse the students, detaining 13 from the spot.
Dhaka College, Eden Women's College, Badrunnesa College, Government Titumir College, Nazrul Islam College, Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Mirpur Bangla College -- were affiliated with the National University before shifting to Dhaka University in February this year.
