The arrest of former UNO of Barisal's Agailjhara upazila on charge of printing invitation cards with the distorted picture of Bangab-andhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman painted by a student of Class V has created grievance among the public servants of administration sector. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also got flabbergasted and shocked at the arrest.
Bangladesh Adminis-trative Service Association or BASA in its statement issued on Thursday demanded action against those involved with the incident. Prime Minister's Political Adviser HT Imam said this in an interview with BBC Bangla. HT Imam said, seeing the news of the UNO's arrest, officials and employees of the Prime Minister's Office got surprised on Thursday. The man who filed this case has done a condemnable act.
The adviser said, I showed the picture of UNO's arrest to the prime minister immediately after I noticed it in newspaper. She got astonished to see this. The prime minister said, "The officer has done a nice job to organize the drawing competition among children. The picture painted in the competition hasn't been distorted. The picture deserves to get prize. The officer is also eligible to get prize. But such misbehavior has been done with him. It is thoroughly opprobrious."
When asked how a government official has been arrested without permission, HT Imam said, "It can't be done any way as UNO is the top government official at upazila level. The permission of the government should be taken to punish or file case against him."
HT Imam said, I will hold responsible the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Barguna for such misbehavior with the UNO. Actions should be taken against them. I don't know how police and district judge took the case.
He also agreed with the grievance created in the administration over the arrest of UNO. He also said, I agree with the officials of the administration as it is lamentable how police disgraced a government official.
President of Barisal District Lawyers' Association and the religious affairs secretary of Awami League city unit Syed Obaidullah Maju filed the case against UNO Gazi Tarique Salman on charge of distorting the photo of Bangabandhu.
