Monsoon rain starts anew in Ctg, adjacent areas

Monsoon rain started anew from Thursday night in Chittagong causing a fresh miseries for the city dwellers. -AA

Monsoon raining started anew from Thursday night in Chittagong and adjoining districts, including Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari. A gust of wind also damaged houses at several areas in Chittagong on Friday morning.

The maximum low-lying areas of the port city went under knee-deep water during the daylong rain on Friday. The Bay of Bengal also remained very agitated.  The city dwellers in the low-lying areas of Chittagong suffered indescribably due to the water-logging. In some places too, water entered houses causing immense sufferings to the dwellers.

The heavy shower affected the normal life of the city. The streets looked vacant, as movement of vehicles and pedestrians was scarce. The low-lying areas of the port city including Chaktai, Khatoongonj, Asad Gonj, Agrabad, Bakalia, Chandgaon, Bahadderhat, Chawk Bazar, Badurtala, Nasirabad, Halishahar, Patenga, Kattali, and other areas have gone under knee-deep water following the torrential rains for several hours. Inhabitants of those low-lying areas have remained stranded into water-logging.

According to local meteorological department Chittagong experienced a heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday. As a result, drains and canals of the city and all the rivers of the district were full to the brim of rainwater causing inundation in low-lying areas through overflowing.
