Panchagarh farmers happy over jute yield, fair price


Farmers are happy over bumper jute production and getting fair price of the cash crop this season as the growers have already started harvesting jute with much enthusiasm in Panchagarh. 

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said a bumper production of jute has been achieved in the district this year and one maund jute is being sold at Tk 2,100-2,200 in the local markets. Farmers cultivated jute on 10,000 hectares of land in the district this year, they added.

Subash Chandra, a jute farmer of Sadar upazila, said he cultivated jute on five bighas of land and earned Taka 80,000 by selling it while production cost was Taka 30,000. 

Md Abdulla Al-Mamun of DAE told this correspondent, a bumper production of jute has been achieved here due to favorable weather and the supply of high quality of jute seeds, fertilizers and insecticides to the farmers by DAE.
