Advance Eid ticket sale to begin from Aug 18

All the long-route private bus operators will start selling advance tickets for the Eid-ul-Azha holidaymakers on August 18. Bangladesh Road Transport Owners' Assoc-iation secretary general Khandaker Enayetullah said the tickets will be available at all the inter-district bus terminals from the day.

He said the home-goers can buy tickets from the counters of their respective buses from 6:00am on the day. In the meantime, Bangladesh Railway will hold advance Eid ticket sale from August 19 while the advance return tickets will be available from August 25. Railway Minister Mujibul Haque will brief the detail in a press conference at Rail Bhaban on August 17. The minister will also announce the elaborated measures taken by his ministry to tackle the Eid rush.    

Passengers want to travel on August 28 will have to collect advance rail tickets on August 19. Eid-ul-Azha is expected to be observed in the country in the first week of September.  The railway sources said: "The passengers will be able to purchase advance tickets for 5 days.

There will be 10 Eid special trains and four trains will be on the track for Sholakia Eid congregation." The advance rail tickets will be on sale from Dhaka and Chittagong. Apart from this, there will be special arrangement for passengers to buy return tickets from Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, Dinajpur and Lalmonirhat train stations. The ticket counters will remain open from 9 in the morning to 5:00pm. Each passenger would be allowed to buy highest four tickets.

President of Bus Truck Owners' Association Faruk Talukder Sohel said that they sat on Thursday to discuss on the advance Eid ticket sales. The meeting also directed the bus operators to take sufficient measures for home bound people. In the meantime, the association's vice-president Ramesh Chandra Ghosh said they have taken preparation in light of their previous experiences.

"The sale began 12 days before the Eid to avoid the hassles. Moreover, many people browse the internet and buy their tickets online. We hope there will be no issues about the availability of Eid ticket," he hoped.
