The sixth death anniversary of acclaimed filmmaker Tareque Masud and cinematographer and former Chief Executive Officer of ATN News Mishuk Munier will be observed today. They died in a road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ghior Upazila of Manikganj on August 13 in 2011 while returning to Dhaka from Manikganj after visiting a filming location.
Film Society of Dhaka University, the national committee to protect river, road and railways and other organizations began different programs from yesterday marking the death anniversary. Film Society of Dhaka University is holding the Ninth International Inter-University Short Film Festival from today at the TSC auditorium where different short films are being screened.
On August 12, Bangla films will be screened at the TSC auditorium. Eminent film maker Catherine Masud, wife of Tareque Masud, will be present on the occasion. Film screening will be held at Alliance Francaise, Dhaka, on August 20-21 and at Alliance Francaise, Chittagong, on August 24-25.
On the other hand, the national committee to protect river, road and railways today organized a discussion and formed a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club marking the death anniversary. Tareque Masud was born in Nurpur village under Bhanga Upazila in Faridpur on December 6 in 1956. He completed his HSC from Notre Dame College and MA in History Department from the University of Dhaka.
Masud was an independent film director, film producer, screenwriter and lyricist - all at once. He first found success with the films Muktir Gaan in 1995 and Matir Moina in 2002. He won three international awards, including the 'International Critics' FIPRESCI Prize', in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2002 Cannes.
