An Assistant Commi-ssioner (AC) of Detective Branch of Detective Branch (DB) and two others sustained bullet injuries during a reported gunfight with miscreants in a raid in Jurain area of Dhaka yesterday night. The injured are Rahul Patowary, Senior Assistant Commissioner of DB (West Division), Mridul, a private university student and a passerby Salim.

Police sources said that the gunfight took place between the law enforcers and criminals around 9:30pm in front of Postagala Nagar Health Complex, leaving them injured. Locals said they  heard few rounds of gunshots.

However, they could not specify who shot whom or how the police official was shot. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shyampur Police Station Abdur Razzak, told The Asian Age that the AC was taken to City Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The injured passerby Salim at DMCH told reporters that he was having tea by the street while a bullet hit him on the shoulder. In the meantime, it was speculated that the private university student was a police informer. Later in the night, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said: "Being tipped off, a DB team raided to arrest arms peddlers. While the cops surrounded the gang, the criminals shot Rahul."

Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the hospital police outpost, said adding that AC Rahul sustained bullet wounds in his chest, Mridul received bullet injuries in his leg and Salim was shot on his neck. DMP commissioner, citing the doctors, also said the AC is out of danger.
