Flood situation has been worsened at Ishwarganj of Mymensingh as the water level of Brahmaputra rises over the danger mark. Locals said floodwater has submerged houses, croplands and marooned over 3,000 people in the area. However, flood-affected people have not got any relief so far.
In the meantime, water has risen at Uchakhila village of Natunchar. On Thursday night, the fast rising in water level caused three thousand people of the village huge sufferings. Ordinary people have been stranded in the floodwater.
A severe crisis in food for people and livestock has broken out. Ward Awami League President Abul Kasem said, Brahmaputra is rising very fast.
Houses in Natunchar are being newly submerged in each moment. He said river erosion has equally added to the sufferings of the people. However, he urged the authorities concerned to take immediate steps and ensure immediate relief supply in the area so that the distressed people could survive.
Local Union Parishad Chairman Shofiqual Islam said, in Natunchar, about fifty houses have gone under water which has literally imprisoned the people of the village. He said that these people need to be shifted to flood shelters as soon as possible. Ishwarganj Upazila Chief Executive Officer Mitu Mariem assured that all kinds of necessary measures will be taken by the administration.
