4G gets PM approval


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the 4G Guideline. After Pm's approval, it was sent to the Post and Telecommu-nication Department from the Prime Minister's Office.  With some other ministries, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also the Minister for Telecom Division. However, The Telecommunications Department already sent it to the BTRC.

This approval has made the progress in the process of introduction the 4G in the country. BTRC officials say that the auction will be held  within 90 days as the guidelines has been finalized. Earlier, the revised guideline reduced the license fee to Tk 10 crore. At the same time each year license renewal fee was fixed at Tk 5 crore.

Initially, the fee was 15 crore and Tk 7 crore respectively. Later, the two fees were amended and added to the policy. Prior to that, 900 and 1800 bands were offered $1 crore each for the technology neutral service, but in the revised guideline it was brought to $75000. On the other hand, 1800 bands spectrum that has been canceled previously, has bee revised in the guideline to include a new allocation process.

In the case of investment, it was set that only foreign direct investment will be allowed in 4G service but it has been withdrawn in the amendment. Now, operators can be able to invest in loans from local banks. The guideline said that those who is going to take the 4G service will have to keep an eye on different information including browsing activities.
