"My husband and I moved to Bombay from Delhi in 1960. It was all different back then - fewer cars, lesser traffic and more silence. But it was still the city of dreams back then - people pouring in from every part of the country, wanting to 'make it'. My husband and I were those people as well - we came to the city with absolutely nothing; we couldn't even make ends meet. We stayed in the tiniest of chawls during those times.
My husband decided to start a Mawa business, and every penny we made, we put back into the business for our future; our children. My husband and I have had sleepless nights, working multiple jobs and skipping meals so that our children could eat and study. We saved everything for their education and to give them a better life - we wanted to make no compromise with their future.
Today, 57 years later, my son's are all working professionals - an advocate, an engineer and a physician. After all of them were settled and married, my husband and I have finally moved into our home at Peddar road - OUR very own home. Looking back, were the struggles worth it? Definitely. I look at my boys now, and see them valuing every little thing they have and being proud of where they come from. (excerpt) Humans of Bombay, Fb
