The government has decided to give cook and security guard allowances to the secretaries instead of directly employing the cook and the security guard. A decision has thus been taken to abolish 146 posts of cooks and security guards who had been working at the residences of the secretaries of different ministries and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in the capital.
The posts are to be abolished with effect from October 1 this year, sources in Ministry of Public Administration said. The Public Adminis-tration Ministry issued a notification on Sunday saying that the cabinet secretary, principal secretary, sustainable development goal affairs principal coordinator, senior secretaries, secretaries and acting secretaries will get Tk 16,000 as cook allowance and Tk 16,000 security guard allowance from this month.
The notification circulated on Monday also said besides these secretaries, cook and the security guard allowances would be applicable to the secretaries already on preparatory retirement (LPR), contractual senior secretaries, secretaries, acting secretaries and the secretaries placed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) category.
Public Adminis- tration Ministry's Senior Secretary Mozammel Haque Khan signed the notification which stated that from October 1 this year the government will give Tk 16,000 against the post of cook and Tk 16,000 against that of the security guard to the secretaries as allowances.
About 73 cooks and 73 security guards have been working at the residences of the government secretaries in the country. All posts are being abolished as per the notification of the ministry immediately.
At present a total of 79 are at work in secretaries at different ministries and the PMO, the sources in the ministry of public administration said.
