The day long hartal in Chittagong enforced by opposition Jamaat-e- Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir protesting the arrest and remand of their leaders was observed peacefully. The hartal hardly affected the life of citizen. Movements of vehicles on the roads were normal. During hartal of Jamaat -e- Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir, the members of law enforcing agencies were on high alert.
Additional numbers of police and 16 platoons of members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed to resist any untoward incident during the hartal hour.
On the other hand, police arrested three persons including the emeer of Bakolia thana committee of Jamaat-e- Islami on Wednesday night. Officer in Charge of Bakolia thana Pronob Chowdhury said police was informed that the emeer of Bakolia thana committee of Jamaat, Abul Mansur planned to create anarchy on the day of hartal. Police raided the house of Abul Mansur and arrested three persons including him from his house.
The life Chittagong people and movement of vehicles were quite normal during hartal. The offices, educational institutes including schools and colleges were open.
