"I don't know how old I exactly am, but 20 years ago when I got my cataract surgery, the doctor said my eyes suggested I was 60 years old, so lets assume for now that I'm 80! I first came to Bombay for work when I was in my teens - I did odd jobs and made a living. When I came off age, my brother arranged my marriage to a girl in our village.
After our wedding, I came back to Bombay but found out after reaching that I had lost my job! I had to send my wife back to the village until I found a stable job and could afford a life in Bombay for both of us - I didn't want her to struggle.
A man was looking for someone to help him at his clothes shop - I jumped at the opportunity! I worked really hard - I ran errands for him, helped at the store and over time, became his trusted friend. I slowly started working at his home - I took care of the house operations, dropped and picked up his children from school, played with him and treated them as my own. They began to call me 'mama' - and I loved that role. (excerpt) Humans of Bombay, Fb
