Mahmudullah Riyad and Sabbir Rahman are at the crease for Bangladesh. Tigers lost a couple of quick wickets as Mushfiqur Rahim followed Imrul Kayes and Shakib Al Hasan back to the pavillion. The required run rate is well above 11 and it's climbing.
In his first innings for South Africa since June, AB de Villiers amassed a career-best 176 off 104 balls and led the hosts to 353 for 6 in Paarl. De Villiers' blitz ravaged the Bangladesh attack and left their eight genuine batsmen with a tall task.
De Villiers needed 34 deliveries to reach his fifty, and as many balls for his next fifty, bringing up his 25th ODI century and his first since January 2016. The next 76 runs came off just 36 balls. He eventually holed out to deep midwicket off Rubel Hossain in the 48th over.
The dismissal came in the middle of a six-hitting spree with de Villiers eyeing a double-hundred. In the remaining 2.2 overs, however, South Africa managed only 10 runs for the loss of JP Duminy and Dwaine Pretorius.
De Villiers had survived two chances: first on 1 when when Mahmudullah missed a run-out opportunity and then on 2 when Nasir Hossain at slip was late to react to a thick outside edge. He shook those off and hit 15 fours, including six through the covers. His seven sixes, meanwhile, came in the arc between square leg and midwicket.
Bangladesh had started the innings relatively well, keeping South Africa's openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock quiet. In the first 17 fours, South Africa managed only three fours, but the strike rotation was impressive.
In the next over, Shakib Al Hasan had de Kock lbw for 46 to end the 90-run opening stand. Bangladesh had finally struck after 372 runs and 60.2 overs in the series.
When Amla mistimed one towards mid-on, the fielder Mahmudullah only had to make a clean pick-up after de Villiers had backed up too far. Mahmudullah missed, and they eventually got the single. In the next over, de Villiers edged Shakib's arm ball just past Nasir Hossain's left hand at slip. He didn't even attempt the catch, and Bangladesh wilted quickly thereafter.
Amla then knocked the ball into the gaps while de Villiers cranked up the boundary count. Amla then fell in the 36th over when Rubel had him caught behind for 85 off 92 balls. Their 136-run partnership for the third wicket came in only 18 overs.
