Are you also among those who prefer carrying packaged juices in their office tiffin bag or have a glass of packaged juice to compliment your breakfast? If yes, we would like to suggest that please stop having these packaged juices and switch to fresh fruit juices.
It might sound difficult and boring, but for a healthy life you should create scope for the change. In many Indian families, these packaged juices are considered as alternatives to "unhealthy" carbonated soft drinks, but the question is are these packaged fruit juices really healthy?
Or is it just a myth? The packaged fruit juices are undisputedly unhealthy. These juices can be categorized as fruit drinks, juices, and nectar drinks. According to a study fruit drinks contain approx 20% of fruit, while fruit juices have 15-20% of fruits and last but not the least nectar drinks contain only 10% of the fruit. When we analyzed the situation, we realized that the rising numbers of health-conscious consumers are having these juices thinking they are fulfilling their daily nutritional requirement with a packaged juice which is healthy.
But sadly, all this has resulted in health diseases that we keep neglecting. For instance, packaged juices lack satiety value i.e. you may not feel full even after drinking 3 glasses of juice. Whereas, if you drink one glass of pulpy fresh juice you will feel satisfied, or you can also opt for eating the fresh fruit directly.
According to a study, the act of chewing and swallowing sends satisfaction signal to the brain. Here, we have tried to highlight such reasons that might force you to say no to the packaged juices today. Read below to know the downsides of packaged fruit juices.
High on preservative: Packaged juices often contain added preservatives to enhance their shelf life. They are high on sugar and are an excellent food for microorganisms. These preservatives along with sugar content can be harmful for your digestive tract.
No nutrition value: In terms of nutritional value, packaged juice can never match fresh ones. Due to high chemical processing to increase the shelf life, they lose precious nutrients that are necessary for you. These packaged juices are fortified with a chemical agent providing the same nutrient which is so not the same as the natural ones. Thus, as a result, these man-made chemicals start affecting the body adversely.
Lack pulp or fiber content: Fresh juices are never strained and thus they are rich in fiber content, while the packaged juices hardly contain any pulp. In case, any of the brand claims to have pulp, it's nothing else but chemicals. In certain fruits, the peel has essential nutrients that packaged juices always lack.
