DAE distributes fertilizers and seeds among farmers


Fertilizers and seeds of various Robi crops are being distributed to flood-affected farmers of Gaibandha district under incentives program of the government to recover their losses caused by recent floods. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said crops and summer vegetables in Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari, Shaghata and Gobindaganj upazilas of the district were damaged by devastating flood this year.

To assist the affected farmers, the government took the incentive programs to distribute seeds of different Robi crops and fertilizers to 21,180 farmers of the upazilas during the current Robi season.

Under the program, the flood-hit farmers are getting seeds of mashkalai, mustard, maize, wheat, BT brinjal and mungbean and fertlilizers Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP), they said.

Of them, some 2,700 peasants would receive seed of mashkalai, 5,000 of mustard, 6,750 of maize, 6,000 of wheat, 700 of mungbean and 30 of BT brinjal with DAP and MoP fertilizers to cultivate one bigha of land each during the current Robi season.

A farmer is getting 5-kg of Mashkalai seed with 10- kg of DAP and 5-kg of MoP fertilizer, a kg of mustard seed with 20-kg of DAP and 10-kg of MoP, 2-kg of maize seed with 20-kg of DAP and 10-kg of MoP, 20-kg of wheat seed with 20-kg of DAP and 10-kg of MoP, 5-kg of mungbean seed with 10-kg of DAP and 10-kg of MoP and 20-gram of BT brinjal seed with 15-kg of DAP and 15-kg of MoP, said a DAE official.

The agri inputs are being distributed to the farmers through the DAE after conducting the survey by the field level sub assistant agriculture officials about the flood hit farmers, he also said.

Deputy Director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin said the lawmakers from the respective constituencies of the district were distributing the seed and the fertilizers to the flood-affected farmers.
